Report by Lu Mi After the first round of the Super League, seven local coaches led their teams onto the field. Among them, two matches were direct confrontations between local coaches, while three others featured local coaches facing foreign coaches. The performance in the first round shows a clear differentiation among local coaches: naturally, there were wins and losses in internal matches, but they collectively suffered defeats against foreign coaches, revealing gaps in experience, lineup arrangement, and in-game adjustments.

In this round of the Super League, the two direct confrontations between local coaches were between Han Peng of Shandong Taishan and Li Jinyu of Liaoning Tieren, as well as Yu Genwei of Tianjin Jinmen Tigers and Liu Jianye of Chongqing Tongliang Long. These two matches displayed completely different trajectories and tactical patterns.
The match between Shandong Taishan and Liaoning Tieren was a coaching duel between former teammates Han Peng and Li Jinyu. Han Peng led Taishan with a complete lineup and mature tactics, controlling the rhythm from the start and securing a clean 3-0 victory. Han Peng's tactical thinking was clear, focusing on counterattacks, capitalizing on set-pieces and wing attacks, and accurately targeting the defensive weaknesses of the newly promoted team. Li Jinyu's Liaoning Tieren, despite having five foreign players, lost control in midfield and frequently exposed defensive gaps, remaining passive throughout and unable to sustain threats. This comprehensive defeat exposed issues such as insufficient磨合 and lack of defensive discipline in the Super League newcomers, also marking a heavy setback for Li Jinyu's Super League debut.

The other local coach confrontation was even more dramatic. Tianjin Jinmen Tigers, burdened with the pressure of starting with -10 points, sought a home win to break the curse of not winning their opening match, while Chongqing Tongliang Long, as a newly promoted team, saw Liu Jianye make his Super League coaching debut. Throughout the match, Jinmen Tigers dominated and created multiple threats, but Tongliang Long relied on a three-center-back system and goalkeeper Yao Haoyang's consecutive miraculous saves to stubbornly hold on for a 0-0 draw. Liu Jianye adopted a stable, defense-oriented approach with practical execution, earning the team's first point in Super League history. Yu Genwei faced domestic coaches in the first three rounds of the Super League opener; after Liu Jianye, he will also confront Chen Tao and Li Jinyu successively.
In the two internal matches among local coaches, Han Peng leveraged Taishan's solid foundation to win easily, while Yu Genwei struggled under the dual pressures of points deficit and the curse, making victory difficult. Both Liu Jianye and Li Jinyu led newly promoted Super League teams: the former achieved an ideal result by resisting stronger opponents, while the latter faced an unfavorable start.

Apart from the two local coach confrontations, Chen Tao of Shenzhen New Pengcheng, Li Guoxu of Dalian Yingbo, and Zheng Zhi of Qingdao West Coast each led their teams against foreign head coaches, with all three matches ending in defeat, indicating that local coaches are currently at a disadvantage against foreign coaches.
In the first round, Shenzhen New Pengcheng faced Chengdu Rongcheng. The team coached by Chen Tao encountered setbacks early on: after a red card left them with one player less, a key foreign player was injured and withdrew, disrupting the balance and leading to a heavy defeat. The red card became a turning point, disrupting Chen Tao's tactical arrangements and exposing the team's shortcomings in resilience and match control.
As a young coach, Chen Tao faces dual challenges of team磨合 and adaptation to the Super League; the first-round defeat serves as a warning bell for the new season's journey.

Dalian Yingbo versus Shanghai Shenhua saw Li Guoxu lead a fierce attacking battle, ultimately losing 3-5. In this match, Yingbo's offensive performance was bright, showing strong desire to win, but defensive gaps were evident, making it difficult to withstand Shenhua's efficient counterattacks. Li Guoxu's bold attacking style deserves recognition, yet the team's overall strength and defensive stability were insufficient, leading to an unavoidable defeat.
Zheng Zhi's Super League debut with Qingdao West Coast ended with a 0-2 away loss to Zhejiang Team. Both conceded goals stemmed from serious mistakes in West Coast's midfield control and defensive positioning and coordination. West Coast also had chances to counterattack, but a penalty was saved. Although West Coast pushed forward aggressively in the latter stages, offensive organization was chaotic, creating threats only through sporadic counterattacks and failing to change the outcome. Overall, Zheng Zhi's coaching tactics were clear, but team execution and磨合 were lacking, defensive vulnerabilities were obvious, and offensive efficiency was low.
The outcome of three consecutive losses直观 reflects the困境 of local coaches: insufficient squad depth, lack of Super League experience, low error tolerance when facing strong teams—even with proactive tactics, it is hard to withstand opponents'冲击.

The growth of local coaches离不开 platform, lineup, experience, time accumulation, and锻炼. Compared to foreign coaches, local coaches still lag in tactical details, in-game adaptability, and international vision, but their practicality,进取 spirit, and willingness to take responsibility displayed in this round deserve recognition.
The Super League needs more local coaches to step forward and also requires giving them more room for trial and error and growth, especially for young coaches like Zheng Zhi, Chen Tao, and Liu Jianye who have recently transitioned; they更需要得到 investors and public opinion's support, encouragement, and tolerance.
The first round is just the beginning. As the season progresses, the performance of local coaches in critical relegation battles and top-tier confrontations will directly impact the league格局 and the ecosystem of Chinese football coaching community.
